What was your earliest memory of plants?

“My mother keeps on telling me a story about my “performance” at my auntie’s garden when I was a little boy. I was peeing on her tomato plants, but they seemed to grow very nicely afterwards. I was about four or five years old, I suppose.”

What do you love most about spring and summer seasons?

“Well, I think for me as a photographer I like shooting outdoors. During the spring and summer time, the light is nicer and we have longer days. The models’ skin looks much more beautiful when they’ve got some sunlight. I guess you can see it on the pictures, that people are happier and more relaxed. And of course, you can play a lot with the colours and shapes of the plants and flowers outside as a beautiful backdrop.”

‘THE SECRET LANGUAGE OF FLOWERS IS UNDERSTOOD BY HUMANS, TOO_______.’

How does a perfect gathering look like?

Gregor: “I like meeting friends, especially at our home or at theirs. I don’t like birthday parties at a pub – it’s too noisy and I can understand only half of the talking. At gatherings, I really like talking and catching up with people I haven’t seen in ages. I like sharing ideas and thoughts – this gives me inspiration for my work.”

What’s your favourite herb/plant-based cocktail?

Gregor: “Sorry, but I never drink cocktails. I like purity even when it comes to drinking alcohol. But I like smoothies though, and I am the biggest fan of fresh mint tea.”

‘HOW MODEST, HOW POETIC. I THINK MANY FLOWERS EVEN LOOK MOST BEAUTIFUL SHORTLY BEFORE THEY BEGIN TO DIE_______.’

Do you like celebrating with family? What’s the most special thing about it?

Gregor: “I like celebrating with family, especially with my wife and kids. It’s like a ritual that I need, to be able to truly relax and recharge my internal batteries, to make new plans. But more than celebrating at home, I like going on trips with my family to warm countries. That’s the perfect way to unwind.”

What inspires you the most about nature?

Gregor: “Nature is a never ending source of ideas: it can give you inspiration and the answers to solving problems during a construction work, color combinations for fashion collections, shapes and designs for modern interiors, but also its pureness and beauty, which I am always looking for in my photography.”

How does nature impact photography?

Gregor: “Still photography is the possibility of capturing a very short moment of life to a long-lasting emotional memory. It’s good to study nature and the beauty of things, to learn about the world and yourself being part of it. When I take a walk in the countryside, I am always surprised by the wild flowers and how beautiful they are. It’s a beauty just made for the little flies and beetles to pollinate – how modest, how poetic. I think many flowers even look most beautiful shortly before they begin to die.”

Would you say that plants and flowers are playing a big part in fashion? How so?

Gregor: “Yes, plants and flowers play a big part in fashion. Each culture on the planet has its own relationship to flowers. They can symbolise very different situations and feelings to different people. In nature, the blossoming phase is the peak time of a plant’s life, it is meant to be most attractive for insects to pollinate and therefore, to guarantee the survival of the species. This secret language of flowers is understood by humans, too. So, if we like to convey positive emotions, happy feelings and the pure joy of life, designers intend to use colourful floral prints or voluptuous prints of plants for their dresses, trousers, skirts, etc. Isn’t this the very same intention, when you wear a beautiful dress to pull attention among people, as it is for the blossoms for insects? The same thing goes with scent.”

Would you say that plants and flowers are also influencing interiors and architecture? How so?

Gregor: “Yes, I think bouquets, plants and flowers in vases are very important elements for interior designers and stylists to create an environment that makes you instantly feel like being at home. Even in hotel rooms, lobbies or restaurants; when you see nicely arranged flowers or plants, you feel touched. It puts you in a comfortable emotion. I think flowers are like living sculptures, like fine art and music. The beauty of plants and flowers works for everyone, without saying many words.”

Any favourite artist or designer works with plants and flowers?

Gregor: “I really like the sketches of the Humboldt brothers (Alexander and Wilhelm von Humboldt) when they first discovered the plants and flowers – no other humans have seen before – on their expedition tours in Latin America. It is both a scientific documentary and a great piece of artwork which is passionately devoted to beauty. I think for an artist, it’s a duty to serve beauty_______.”
