Floraissance

Let’s reawaken the world to beauty. We’re longing for a Floraissance; a spiritual regeneration, celebrating the beauty of nature, reviving the belief there is something higher and more important than material success. The energising breath of nature and arts, looking at the artist as an art-gardener. Creating is a tremendous energizer, artists never retire. And neither do plants. We need their blooming forms to reshape the world and the way we see.

The term Floraissance was coined by artist Andre Feliciano in 1984, with rings of eclectic undertones. And now more than ever we are striving for fertility, a wave of optimism. A floraissance of new things and new ideas. Leafy sculptures showing us new interpretations of strong forms and decorative shapes. Therefore this season we celebrate the marsh-dwelling wonderplant of ancient Egypt, a plant once worshipped by farao’s; the majestic Cyperus papyrus. A reinterpretation of a very elegant and strong classic.
And to feel most alive we need collective blooming. Searching for an uplifting environment we’re throwing illuminating light into these cold months to enlighten daily life. This issue showcases flowers and plants inspired by the energizing light of Renaissance paintings. Resulting in tender hues and blooming silhouettes. As philosopher Albert Camus noted ‘In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer.’

We think of the exquisiteness of plants and flowers as a metaphor in 2020 for the hopes and dreams many of us experience______.
