Linda Lomelino
plays flowers
  for keepers

For as long as she can remember, Linda Lomelino has loved eating pastries. Her mum used to bake all the time when she was a kid, but she never wanted to join in – she only wanted to eat cake. When and how Linda came to love baking, is a mystery. But Linda started baking back in 2009 and totally loves it! Her style of photography is spectacular and inspiring. Especially when there are flowers involved_______.

Flowery Memory

“To be honest, when I was a kid I wasn't into flowers much. I thought they were pretty and all, but I don't think I gave them too much thought. I do however remember how we picked the blossoms off lilac branches, put them in our mouths and kind of sucked the insides of the blossom out. I remember it tasted sweet and very good.

My first memory of really appreciating the beauty of flowers is from a few years ago, maybe three years or so, when I literally stopped to smell the flowers – blossoming, plump purple lilacs to be specific, with the most beautiful scent. I just had to stop to smell them, it was too good to miss! Lilacs are very special to me, like no other flower in the world. I'm sad they are so short lived, but I guess that's the charm of them as well and makes me appreciate them even more.”

“To be honest I rarely buy anyone else flowers. I always end up wanting to keep them”

Cactus mum

“Actually, no flower reminds me of my mother! My mother isn't a flowery person in any way. Maybe some kind of cactus? Ha ha. Was that a mean thing to say? No, I love cacti too. My mum is a very practical person and I think she would always buy ‘necessary’ stuff instead, if you know what I mean. I would never buy my mother flowers for her birthday, but maybe pick a summer bouquet since her birthday is in August.”

Flower envy

“I bought someone flowers just two days ago… myself! Ha ha. To be honest, I rarely buy anyone else flowers. I always end up wanting to keep them. I think the last time I bought someone else flowers was for my mother-in-law's birthday. I usually pick my favourite flowers for her and make a bouquet out of them, and she really appreciates it, which is very nice.”

“The smell of fresh flowers makes me feel happy and a little teary-eyed. They make my heart flutter.”

Every day’s a bouquet

“I think my favourite flower shop is Fritz flowers because it's so close to my house. I go there several times a week and they always help if I need something special for a project of mine. Luckily most of them know what I do, so hopefully they don't think I'm too crazy for going there every other day... But considering what they do for a living, they must enjoy flowers too.”

Happy blossoming

“The smell of fresh flowers makes me feel happy and a little teary-eyed (in the best way possible). They make my heart flutter. I don't think there is anything better in this world. Especially in springtime. I can just go out to look at the blossoming trees and shrubs and they fill my heart with happiness. I want to bring them all into my apartment!”

“Sometimes when we're watching a movie and we have peonies on the table I can feel my eyes drawn to them instead of the TV.”

Peony beats TV

“When I see a peony I want to... never ever stop looking at it! Sometimes when we're watching a movie or something and we have peonies on the table I can feel my eyes drawn to them instead or the TV. I guess it's a good thing, to appreciate and study the beauty of nature. Sometimes I am just blown away by how nature can create something so intricate and beautiful.”

No leaves in the water

“I have absolutely no trick for keeping flowers fresh as I don't have green fingers, no matter how much I love them. Giving them a fresh trim, fresh water and no leaves in the water - but that’s basic stuff I guess!”

To name but a few...”

“I dream of having my own garden one day, just waking up on a beautiful summer's day, walking barefoot and having my morning coffee on the grass”

Blooming kitchen

“What other way do you use flowers? (fragrance sachets, dyeing, drying, cooking) Oh, there are so many ways to use flowers! Floral ice cubes, floral sugar (all with edible flowers or course). A flower wreath for midsummer, pressing them, framing them, drying them... Using them in cooking. Colourful edible flowers adds so much to a summer salad!”

Delicious lavender

“My favourite edible flower is lavender. I absolutely love lavender! I made a peach bundt cake last year with lemon glaze and lavender on top. It was beautiful. I am somehow always drawn to purple flowers, both because they are pretty, but also because I enjoy the flavour.”

Morning coffee on the grass

“I don’t grow my own flowers because I don't have a garden, which makes me a little sad. I dream of having my own garden one day, just waking up on a beautiful summer’s day, walking barefoot and having my morning coffee on the grass. If I had a garden, I know I would have lots and lots of beautiful flowers and a little garden with apple trees, redcurrants, rhubarb, and strawberries. Maybe some veggies too! I also dream of running a small summer café some day.”

Breathtaking shrubs

“My favourite public space that really knows how to work with flowers is Sofiero castle and garden in Helsingborg, Sweden, without a doubt! We go there every year and it's just incredible. We usually visit at the end of May/beginning of June to see all the blooming rhododendrons. They have 10,000 shrubs in all shapes and colours and it's absolutely wonderful. Especially the view from the castle café where we can sit for a long, long time… It’s quite blissful_______.”
